Chaofu is the most formal category of Qing court dress, worn for grand audiences and state sacrifices. It joins an upper garment to a pleated lower section, has horse-hoof cuffs and is worn with a separate shoulder collar. Here, on a yellow ground, frontal dragons occupy the shoulders, chest and back, with profile dragons ranged across the pleated skirt.
