Kesi Mang Robe with Dragon and Cloud Design

清代缂丝云龙纹蟒袍

The robe is woven in kesi, the cut-silk tapestry technique in which coloured wefts are worked back and forth only across the area they fill, leaving the fine vertical slits characteristic of the weave. Dragons and cloud bands are distributed across the body, with a wave-and-mountain border at the hem. Mang robes were worn by officials and titled women on auspicious occasions.
