Zhuanghua Satin Robe Length with Dragon Motifs

明代龙纹妆花缎袍料

Zhuanghua brocading introduces coloured wefts only where they are needed, allowing many colours in a single pick and producing dense, sharply bounded pattern. This is an uncut robe length, its ornament laid out in advance to match the position it would occupy on the finished garment — material evidence of how weaving and tailoring were coordinated in the Ming.
