Fabric-Faced Armour

清代布面甲

Qing armour is largely of the fabric-faced type: a textile outer layer over internal plates, studded with metal rivets on the surface. Here the plates are clearly visible on the inside, making the piece a useful specimen for understanding the construction. Such armour served both practical and ceremonial ends, and examples made for reviews and state ceremony are correspondingly elaborate.
