Samite with Paired Birds in Pearl Roundels

唐代对鸟连珠纹锦

The pearl roundel — a ring of small beads enclosing a symmetrical pair of animals or birds — is one of the defining frameworks of Tang-dynasty silk design, and is closely tied to Central Asian weaving traditions. Textiles of this type are direct evidence of pattern travelling along the Silk Road. Shown at the Museum of Textile and Costume, Donghua University, in 2018.
