Blue-Satin-Ground Brocade with Peony and Grapevine

清代青缎地牡丹葡萄纹织锦

Peony and grapevine are worked over a dark blue satin ground. The peony carries associations of wealth and standing; the many-seeded grape stands for numerous offspring. The pairing is a common auspicious subject in Qing textiles.
